When approaching this project, there are two options to consider, but it's important to understand why some methods aren't recommended. Wood, being a natural material, is prone to bending, flexing, and cracking easily. Additionally, it expands and contracts significantly with changes in temperature and humidity, which can create challenges in maintaining stability.

To complicate matters further, we are working with long, thin rails, which makes creating a stable piece of wood nearly impossible. If you're hoping to dig a channel into this thin wood so that it can slide over glass, it's essentially an impractical solution.

The two approaches to this challenge are as follows:

Use a regular stainless steel square top cap rail and cover it with a wood-like sheet or adhesive. This will give you the visual and tactile texture of wood, while maintaining the necessary structural integrity of the steel rail.

Hire a carpenter (we have one available) who can create and glue pieces of wood together to fabricate the top cap rail in a true wood look.

Both options will add to your cost, with the second approach being the more expensive. It will require several days of work and will likely add a few thousand dollars to the overall cost of your project.
